If you seek a glass of wine...

Main Street, Paw Paw, Michigan, 1906, (note electric utility and telephone poles).

Paw Paw is the County Seat of Van Buren County.  This beautiful region is often referred to as
"Michigan's Fruit Basket", and is replete with roadside produce stands in the summer and fall.

Grapes have been grown in this area since the 1860s.  Paw Paw is home to the oldest winery
in Michigan-- the St. Julian Wine Company.  The Meconi family from Italy started making wine
in the "new world" in 1921, and established the company in 1936.  St. Julian's is one of the 40
largest wineries in the United States.

                                                            Your Host-- Charles Schwarz
One of Michigan's most outstanding restaurants

                                                                       Air-Conditioned
More than an acre of paved parking space

Sorry!  Restaurant closed.  Chicken Charlie's was a restaurant in Kalamazoo, Michigan, that
was popular with families in the 1950s.  It was located on the corner of Whites Road and South
Westnedge Avenue.

Chicken Charlie's had memorable cole slaw-- sweet, tangy, and very finely shredded.

The restaurant decor featured "picture windows" that were actually huge blow-up photos of exotic locales such as Cypress Gardens.  They were set into the wood-paneled wall complete with recessed lighting.  Click on the card to enlarge it and you will see one of these windows.

This postcard is a Genuine Curteich-Chicago "C.T. Art-Colortone" Post Card,  c. 1952.

In case you are waxing nostalgic about some favorite spots in Kalamazoo that are no longer around...
